Martin Hinteregger scores as a striker in Austria

The former Frankfurt Bundesliga professional Martin Hinteregger scored a goal on his home debut with the fifth-rate Austrian football club SGA Sirnitz in the Carinthian lower league.

The 29-year-old, who surprisingly ended his professional career in the summer, was converted into a striker and scored the opening goal (7th) in the 2-0 win against FC St. Michael/Lavanttal.

In addition, Hinteregger was unlucky with a header on the crossbar, reports the Kronen-Zeitung. Austria’s 67-time international was substituted in the 90th minute. Sirnitz had received permission to play for the Europa League winner last week.

On June 23, Hinteregger ended his professional career as a consequence of the business relationship affair with a right-wing populist politician. The regular central defender’s contract in Frankfurt has been terminated.

“In the past few weeks, a number of issues have arisen about my ‘Hinti-Cup’, which I have held with heart and soul and with a clear conscience, the scope of which only became clear to me afterwards,” Hinteregger explained at the time: “To it yet To say it very clearly: I condemn right-wing, intolerant and inhuman ideas in the strongest terms.”

The FPÖ politician Heinrich Sickl helped organize the hobby tournament organized by Hinteregger in Carinthia. Hinteregger avoided condemning Sickl despite his connections to the far-right scene.
