Martijn Krabbé and Waylon see the ratings of their TV show Better Than Ever plummet. TV professor Tina Nijkamp does not exclude that this is partly due to the Voice scandal.
The second season of Better Than Ever, in which Martijn Krabbé and Waylon receive former contestants of talent shows to share their story and sing, is on the rise. The first season attracted an average of 873 thousand viewers on RTL 4’s Saturday evening last year, but now the viewing figures are falling alarmingly.
Television crash
Better Than Ever kicked off the season two weeks ago with 736 thousand viewers, last week there were only 596 thousand and last night only 480 thousand people (11 percent) watched the TV show on RTL 4. This puts the program in the bottom regions of the daily viewing top 25.
According to Tina Nijkamp, these are ‘disastrous figures’. “This is really a ratings crash. Also in the commercial target group 20 to 54 years this is now considerably less (14 percent market share compared to 23 percent in week one). Worse: not only overtaken by NPO 1, but also by NPO 3 with Vrouwen Die Varen and SBS 6 with Het Roer Om.”
What is the reason?
What is the reason for these disappointing ratings? Tina firstly points out that the broadcast day and time have changed. “Now on Thursday 8.30 pm, this was Saturday 9.30 pm. Kijker therefore thinks it fits better on Saturday.”
Yet Tina thinks that the Voice scandal also plays a role. “That is in the news all the time and confirms that participating in a talent show is not always a dream, but can be a nightmare. Striking detail: only the two episodes that were broadcast before the Voice scandal scored above one million. After that, never again.”
Arjen waves off
Arjen Lubach has said goodbye with 1.2 million viewers (30 percent). He will not return until September with his evening show. “NPO 1 will miss Lubach very much in terms of viewing figures from next week, that’s for sure.”
Today Inside was again the most watched talk show of the evening with 969 thousand viewers (22 percent). “So we will certainly see Rutger Castricum back at the table there soon.”
