Martijn Krabbé back on TV after ten months: ‘This is really disappointing’

Martijn Krabbé is back on television after ten months and at RTL 4 they apparently missed him so much that he immediately popped into the broadcast schedule three times. How is his comeback doing?

After taking his viewing hit The Voice of Holland off the tube, Martijn Krabbé appeared little on television last year. After an absence of ten months, the presenter is back and starts three programs in one week: Better Than Ever, Buying Without Watching and Last Night Race Across the World.

Race across America

Race Across the World, in which five couples travel through Latin America under Martijns leadership, started on RTL 4 on the results evening of the Provincial Council elections with 776 thousand viewers (15 percent market share).

Only NPO 1 managed to captivate more viewers at the same time, namely with the results evening. More than 1.5 million people (40 percent) saw Caroline van der Plas achieve a huge victory with her young political party BBB. It wasn’t about anything else in the late talk shows.

Moderate numbers

Tina Nijkamp, who has led SBS 6 for years and is now a viewing figure analyst, thinks it is disappointing. She emphasizes that this is a ‘very expensive’ program of about 200,000 euros per episode. “Well. This mediocre score was there. Starting a big program on election night is a big risk.” she writes.

She speaks of ‘disappointing figures’. “And really bummed for Martijn Krabbé who made his TV comeback after ten months of absence.”

No campaign

According to Tina, it is a mistake that there was no large-scale advertising campaign for this show. “Possibly slightly higher figures next week, because the reactions on Twitter were mainly positive. But it would have been better to let the start be next week. After all: a good start is half the battle…”

RTL 4 itself is positive about the score achieved. The channel points to the market share of 20 percent in their specific commercial target group.”
