‘Martijn Krabbé announces too early that he is ill? Disrespectful!’

Martijn Krabbé is receiving support after Jan Uriot’s misplaced criticism of the announcement of his cancer diagnosis. According to podcast maker Ramon Hopman, it is quite disrespectful.

It was quite a shock last week: Martijn Krabbé announced via his Instagram page that he is suffering from cancer, but that there are still plenty of treatment options. According to Private journalist Jan Uriot, the TV star should have announced this at a later time: “Far too early. (…) Then I think: just wait and see how your health is going.”

Bold

Ramon Hopman, who makes a podcast about television, thinks it is extremely bold of Jan. “The person who determined the moment to make it public is Martijn. This should not be an item on any gossip program. I think Martijn has something else on his mind. Respect and distance are appropriate here,” he writes X.

TV watcher Lianne van Veen thinks that Evert Santegoeds should return to the Strikt Privé podcast soon. He is now replaced by Jan. “Jan is so sour that he cannot be filmed. Leave Martijn alone. When will Evert be back? If Martijn had not said anything, I would guess that someone would have felt it necessary to leak this.”

‘Don’t whine!’

Nathalie thinks Martijn is doing fine, she writes on X. “Don’t complain Jan. When people see Martijn in the hospital, it also leaks out.”

Birgit also thinks it goes too far. “Why now? Because otherwise it will be brought out by sewer ‘journalists’ like Jan Uriot. Just shut your mouth, Jan. Get well soon, Martijn. 🍀”

Patsy thinks that Jan is not completely well. “That you are not allowed to decide for yourself when you publish your news. Please first consult with the clown from some gossip channel. No, not yet? What if I walk out of the hospital with my bald head? Or if I pick out a coffin? You tell me. Get well soon.”

Jan responds

Jan responds Strictly Private to the resulting commotion. He pretends to have been misunderstood, but then repeats the exact words for which he is under fire. “It’s as if we are being very nasty to Martijn Krabbé. He reported being ill, and then I said: ‘I might have waited a while, because he has no work at the moment.”

“At least, there will be a program, but it has already been recorded. I said, ‘Maybe he should have waited a while.’ Then you added: ‘John, you should listen. I thought it was a bit strange that all those people like Wendy van Dijk started responding via that Insta again.’ That was the story, but it doesn’t come across well at all.”

Hand in your own bosom

Well, that did come across very well and Jan is also criticized for that. Fortunately, co-host Jordi Versteegden understands the situation and apologizes on behalf of the podcast. “Hand in your own bosom. People wonder: what are we getting involved in? And sometimes I think: you’re absolutely right.”

The Telegraaf star continues: “Martijn Krabbé is going through a terrible period with his family and then we are interfering with how he should present that. I completely understand why people are like: stop that. Hand in your own bosom. Sometimes we might just have to keep our mouths shut about something. Or do you see it differently?”

Journalism

Yes, Jan sees it differently. He sees his criticism of the announcement of Martijn’s cancer diagnosis as ‘journalism’. “No no no. That’s just showbiz journalism. If Martijn posts something about his serious illness, the media will talk about it and of course we will too. We’ll just keep doing that. We will continue to get involved.”

Jordi is surprised: “Do you see the stain here? We just keep rubbing in that!”
