After years, Dries Roelvink is still not convinced of the authenticity of Martien Meiland. The singer has been calling for the reality star for some time now fake and he maintains that position.
As someone who has made a real-life soap himself for years, Dries Roelvink recognizes it like no other: tricks to appear fun on television. The programs of the Meilandjes are intertwined with fakeness, says the Ik Kom, Ik Kom Eraan singer. He states that Martien Meiland in particular is very well made.
Martin is fake
Dries points to Frans Bauer, who is himself on TV and is also working on a comeback of his soap. “I think that’s the best soap so far. It feels real, unlike, for example, the Meilandjes,” he says in the Weekend. “Frans Bauer does not change, he is not like Martien Meiland who thinks: the camera is going to turn, so now I am going to act hysterical.”
You can see that Martien only acts fun and hysterical when the camera is turned on, says Dries. “No, I think Frans remains completely himself. And you feel that as viewers. I am completely taken into his family life. You just have to be interested in that.”
Back on TV
How real are the Roelvinkjes themselves? They will also return soon with a soap opera and, according to Dries, there is enough to tell about things faking. “Now Donny has become a kind of fitness guru and a reporter at RTL Boulevard. At first you only saw Dave as a deejay in the nightlife and party animal who got out of bed in the afternoon.”
Now it is very different, Dries continues. “He is clean, has his own addiction clinic, is in real estate and steel doors, he has become a kind of businessman. Quite a difference from then.”
Eurovision Song Contest
Finally: will we see Dries make another attempt to go to the Eurovision Song Contest? “Don’t call me. I tried twice, in ’96 and two years ago. I will give them a tip: send Tino Martin!”
To stand behind the bar? No, really as a submission. “I think he can surprise the whole of Europe, that people think: wow, that’s a personality, with a song that touches you!”
