It has been said for years that Martien Meiland is not as hysterical and exaggerated in real life as he is on television and that is an unpleasant accusation, because it affects his integrity. Is this reality star actually authentic? Caroline van Eeden, the housekeeper who has been part of the series for a long time, says not.

Caroline tells in the Party that absolutely everything has been staged. “Wow, everything was staged. Then it sounded like: ‘Caroline, please walk upstairs with a note and we will let Martien know what messages need to be delivered.’ Martien then turned it into a whole play in which he listed the messages while screaming.”
She thinks that’s really strange. “While normally we would just sit at the table and talk while going through the groceries. What comedians. I have seen them change day by day. The hysterical screams of this family… Normal communication is not possible.”
Effeminate Martien
They were acting crazier by the day, according to Caroline. “When I once said that I couldn’t sleep as well if I drank coffee in the evening, I heard someone shout back: ‘Yes, you! But that’s all nonsense!’ That’s how it was spoken. I have heard how Martien was interviewed in the kitchen. He was sitting there on the stairs and I was working in the kitchen.”
And then? “He started talking very effeminately and I heard him say: ‘Do you actually know who I am, who you are talking to?’ I later walked up to him and said to him: ‘Just act normal, man.’ Success went to Martien’s head. He always wanted to be famous, but now he is a caricature of himself.”
Loudly
Caroline is not going to text Martien tonight to wish him a happy new year. “When everyone had come to their senses again, the Televizier-Ring Gala came. There Martien loudly announced to everyone that Caroline was out of the series. They turned that into a very nice game.”
She thinks it’s disgusting. “I emigrated to France especially for them, but they kicked me out of the series.”
