Martien Meiland finds bite incident Peter Gillis ‘naturally terrible’

Martien Meiland thinks the biting incident that Peter Gillis is suspected of is ‘of course terrible’, but he does not think that his SBS 6 colleague should be immediately released. “Let’s wait and see first.”

Peter Gillis is accused of countless misconduct, but the alleged assault of his now ex-girlfriend Nicol Kremers is by far the most discussed. He would even have bitten her and that is why he is also being prosecuted by the Public Prosecution Service. What does Martien Meiland, the other reality star of SBS 6, think of it?

Martin responds

Martien thinks it’s a bad thing, he says in the Weekend. “Of course that was quite a thing at one point with that Nicol, isn’t that what she’s called? I think I saw that series once. He would have bitten her, wouldn’t he? That is of course terrible. Then I think: that’s not good, no.”

Does he think Peter should be off the tube? “I think there is a lawsuit going on, right? Let’s wait for that first and then judge again: dude, you have to get off the tube or you can stay. People nowadays judge even before the judge has made a decision. I think that’s so bad. No, just wait and see.”

Screaming TV star

Martien himself has to deal with people he has to get rid of because of his screaming. Is he afraid of Meiland fatigue? “I am not concerned with that at all. The ratings are still so good. We recently cut a ribbon in Aalsmeer and all those people who come! So much fun, so positive, and they all want their picture taken with us.”

He continues: “As long as the viewing figures are good, we will continue to make the program. I expect another two years. Then I will be 63. Well, then it might have been nice. I also have to take care of that breakfast in the guest house later.”

Declining ratings

Peter Gillis’ ratings, meanwhile, are on the rise. Only 540 thousand people watched Massa is Kassa yesterday. “And only a 9.8 percent market share in the target group aged 20 to 54. This is on Christmas Eve and Christmas after the worst-watched broadcast of the past 53 episodes. Oops,” says viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp.

She continues: “That is not good. Last week was also lower than normal. The negative publicity and the breakup with Nicol that became known last week will not help. Big question: Can and if so, how, can this fall in viewing figures be reversed?”

Gillis fatigue

Jan Dijkgraaf, the biographer of the Meilandjes, fears the worst for Massa is Kassa:
