Maximilian Marterer and Nicola Kuhn caused a surprise at Wimbledon. The two German tennis pros have reached the main field in the classic lawn.
Marterer (27) defeated the American Nicolas Moreno De Alboran 7:6 (7:2), 7:6 (13:11), 6:3 in the third qualifying round. The man from Nuremberg had only made it into the first round at Wimbledon in 2018. For the first time in his career, Kuhn, who used to start for Spain, is among the top 128 in a Grand Slam tournament. The 22-year-old prevailed against Rinky Hijikata from Australia 6: 4, 3: 6, 7: 5, 7: 6 (7: 4).
Daniel Masur (27) lost to Christian Harrison from the USA 6:4, 3:6, 7:5, 4:6, 1:6. Veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber (38) failed in the second round of qualifying, it was his last professional game on the ATP tour.
