The artistic avant-garde was always the imprint of Marta Minujin and the landing in the digital world of NFT It is one more step in his career. That is why his iconic work, “The payment of the Argentine debt with corn, Latin American gold”, from 1985 is one of the proposals in the online auction that will take place this September 21, at 7:00 p.m., on the platform enigma.art.
The performance that Argentina performed with the artist Andy Warholwas carried out at the facilities of The Factory. There, they placed the corn on the floor, and in the middle of the mound, two chairs were placed, where they both sat. The proposal consisted of a photographic sequence of twelve movements in a 360-degree turn in which they recreated the action of offering and accepting the payment of the debt with corn, which were recorded by the photographer Claudius Leiman.
According to the anecdote, told by Minujín, he met Andy Warhol at the Odeon bar in New York. In times of Alfonsinism and the pressure for the payment of Argentina’s foreign debt to international credit organizations, the idea arose of making a performance with the referent of the pop-art. This would be one of the last works by Warhol, who would die two years later due to malpractice, in a gallbladder operation in the New York Hospital.
“This work became a myth, and the good thing about having it in NFT is that people can relive the myth,” said Marta Minujín, referring to an upcoming installment in advance: “Soon they will see another one! “Pandemic”! The public will be able to have this NFT in their homes and they will be able to enjoy it in three-dimensional form.”
To participate in the digital event, those interested must have a digital wallet with Ether and follow to enigma.art in the social network Discord. Those registered will be granted an access link minutes before starting the activity in online format, which will last 24 hours from the first auction held.
