The football world is mourning the loss of a young defensive player. Marshawn Kneeland has died at just 24 years old.
Just a few days ago he celebrated his first NFL touchdown, now Marshawn Kneeland from the Dallas Cowboys is dead. The National Football League (NFL) club announced this on Thursday. The defensive end was only 24 years old. There was initially no information about the background.
Police in Frisco, Texas are investigating a possible suicide. According to the statement, Kneeland crashed his car during a chase and then left the scene of the accident on foot. The football professional was later found dead after a large-scale search operation; according to police, his body had a “presumably self-inflicted gunshot wound”. Kneeland is said to have previously expressed suicidal thoughts.
The NFL quoted a statement from Kneeland’s agent Jonathan Perzley: “I am devastated to confirm that my client and dearest friend Marshawn Kneeland passed away last night.” He could hardly put his pain into words.
Kneeland was selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2024 draft. Since then he has appeared in a total of 18 games for the team from Texas. He was last on the field on Monday evening. In the 17:27 loss against the Arizona Cardinals, he achieved a special highlight in this encounter: Kneeland scored his first touchdown when he secured a blocked point in the opposing end zone.
A statement from the Cowboys said: “Marshawn was a valued teammate and a beloved member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.”
