Alexander Cox will no longer be the trainer of the Amsterdam hockey players next season. The club from the capital has decided not to extend the expiring contract of the 44-year-old trainer.
Last season, Amsterdam reached the semi-finals of the national championship and the final round of the Euro Hockey League. This season, however, the results are a lot less. The 21-time national champion is in a poor eighth place in the premier league and has already been eliminated in Europe.
Moderate results
In recent years, Amsterdam’s results have not been as expected. For example, the last national title for the men was won in 2012. The club’s board therefore wants to take a new path: “The focus in the next two to three years will be on building a strong team by investing in the development of the young Dutch talents and in our own youth, but also in culture. The aim is to lay the foundation for successes at national and European level in the medium term.”
It is not yet known who will be the trainer of Amsterdam next season. The club will be looking for a suitable replacement for the departing Cox in the coming months.
