Tieluiska oy, which renovated Vantaa’s Hakunila athletics field, cannot understand the arguments of the city of Vantaa about the unusability of the field.
CEO of Tieluiska oy Markku Hurskainen found himself in a special situation on Monday when he suddenly started receiving contacts Helsingin Sanomat and from articles published by Iltalehti.
In news, Vantaa’s director of sports Brother Matti Kallislahti said that moving on the brand new field is a safety hazard due to the poorly made field surface. According to Kallislahti, the surface flexes differently in different places.
The view of Vantaa’s sports services is that the field, which cost 900,000 euros, must be demolished and rebuilt.
– I read in the newspaper that the field we made is bad. It’s a bit strange, Hurskainen wonders.
– I am amazed by such a story, that we have made a bad field. We have not been provided with any kind of document showing that that field is bad. I don’t have that kind of paper. These are Mr. Kallislahti’s own interpretations of some things that we are not aware of.
Who is responsible?
From the city’s side, what makes the situation special is that Vantaa spatial services accepted the contract, even if sports services did not want to do so. So now we are considering whether Tieluiska oy is responsible for the possible repair of the field.
– We have done the work in accordance with the instructions and plans of the City of Vantaa. The work has been handed over to us without flaws or errors, says Hurskainen.
– The work has been accepted. Of course, if there were work under warranty, then they would be part of the warranty, but since none have been found.
After the completion of the contract, the city has carried out measurements and studies in the field. During the job itself, everything still looked good.
– Measurements and checks during work have all gone well. I don’t really understand what’s going on here, Hurskainen wonders.
– We think the field is good. For example, we made one SM-level athlete run around the field and asked how it feels. He said that this is good.
Tieluiska oy has received the agreed compensation for the contract.
A staggering claim
The renovation of the sports field was not completed on time. The four-month job stretched into a year and a half. It was originally supposed to be ready already in July 2021.
However, according to Hurskainen, breaking the schedule is completely normal.
– There were additional works and changes and various reasons why it took longer. And the plans weren’t always completely up-to-date either. But such tasks always come up in a project, comments the CEO.
– We did not account for this site. We have not dragged this out to get more money. Here, there has always been a common will to finish the project. It’s better if I don’t comment on all the events here.
According to the sports director Kallislahti, “morale failed the project at some point”. Hurskainen knocks down the mystical statement, at least from his own company.
– It’s pointless to blame our morality. The company will be 50 years old next year and I have been building this for 25 years. I’m still walking upright in that city around my own projects. The fact that we are accused of something immoral is absolutely outrageous.
– We are an old, traditional builder, and not a one-night stand. We have always been responsible for our work.
