Big winners in the update
Anatoliy Trubin (21) and Mykola Matvienko (26) remain at the top of the Ukrainian Premier League after the interim market value update. However, the Shakhtar Donetsk duo are well ahead of the competition after revaluations from 7 million to 18 million euros each. Even apart from the goalkeeper talent and the central defender, some young Ukrainian professionals are gaining in value, sometimes significantly.
Artjom Zavodnyk (VfB-Devil), market value coordinator at Transfermarkt, explains the development: “The level of the league has understandably fallen after the start of the war and the departure of most foreign players, but many young local players have followed in their footsteps and were partly able to do so replaced very well – at Shakhtar, for example, young players from their own academy are finally getting their chance. The years before that, they always had a hard time, because they tended to rely on talents from South America, because they sell better in Europe. The alignment was very reminiscent of Benfica, which is not surprising given that former sporting director José Boto was chief scout there for years. Since club legend Darijo Srna succeeded him, the focus has shifted much more to his own youth.”
Trubin & Matvienko share top spot: Most valuable players in Ukraine
In addition to Trubin and Matvienko, this is noticeable in midfield talent Georgiy Sudakov (20), whose market value has increased by 3 million to 9 million euros. 22-year-old Artem Bondarenko (+2 to 6m) or 21-year-old Danylo Sikan (+2 to 4m) also benefited from the development.
Market value expert: Ukrainian talents will move to top leagues more often
Zavodnyk continues: “The new orientation, also a result of the war, has borne its first fruits with Mykhaylo Mudryk’s record sales. Recently, the trend for top Ukrainian talent towards the European top leagues is clear: Vitaliy Mykolenko and Ilya Zabarnyi have transferred from Dynamo Kyiv to the Premier League for large transfer fees and the league’s long-time top star Viktor Tsygankov is now playing in LaLiga. Because of the falling level of the league, the state of war in the country and the resulting lack of economic components, it is more lucrative for local players to switch to top European leagues than to stay in the ‘golden cage’ with Dynamo or Shakhtar, as it used to be .”
The upgraded Trubin and Matvienko could be next, with which market value admin “cfc1905” also explains their clear upgrade: “They have increased due to their good performance at European level, which at the same time aroused great interest: Matvienko was about to move to Brighton in the winter . The demand for Shakhtar players is very high again in the top leagues and the club can sell its players very well, as the example of Mudryk showed.”
Away from Shakhtar, there is only a million upgrade for striker Artem Dovbyk (25) from second-placed SK Dnipro-1 – by one million to 11 million euros, which puts him in third place in the ranking ahead of Dynamo keeper Georgiy Bushchan ( 28) with 10M. Ukraine expert “cfc1905” explains: “There was also renewed interest in Dovbyk, in his case primarily from Italy. In addition, he is currently the top scorer in the league and has been delivering stable performances for some time – including in the UEFA Europa Conference League.”
This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
