All players updated
After the complete update of the Super League, Fabian Rieder, who was freshly called up to the Swiss national team’s World Cup squad, is the sole most valuable player. While high-flying talents such as Becir Omeragic, Leonidas Stergiou and Ignacio Aliseda are clearly downgraded, Wouter Burger from FC Basel 1893 is approaching the top ten in the Swiss football league with a plus of 130 percent.
Rieder has taken the next step at the BSC Young Boys and is jointly responsible for the confident lead of the capital city. The good performance of the 20-year-old midfielder was rewarded with a World Cup nomination by national team coach Murat Yakin, and the market value is also increasing: by 2 million to 10 million euros, with Rieder replacing the previous co-leader and teammate Kastriot Imeri (22) leaves behind.
Rieder breaks away: most valuable players in the Swiss Super League
Before the update, there was even a trio ahead: Rieder, Imeri and Omeragic. However, the 20-year-old central defender was unable to prevent the fall of defending champions FC Zurich, quite the opposite: Omeragic also lost some of his regular place due to several minor injuries. Consequence: market value minus from previously 8 million to now 6 million euros. In the overall ranking, he still remains in third place in the Super League. Overall, the FCZ loses massively in squad value, falling by 7.6 million to 25.2 million euros.
Omeragic’s U21 partner Stergiou also had some problems maintaining his place at FC St. Gallen 1879. The market value of the 20-year-old falls by 1.5 million to 4.5 million euros. Lugano winger Aliseda is down even more: the 22-year-old Argentinian loses a whopping 2.2 million to 1.3 million euros. Aliseda came from Chicago in January for 3.5 million euros and since then has hardly gotten a foot on the ground in Switzerland – also due to injury.
Perhaps the most prominent Super League addition of the summer has also been downgraded: Mario Balotelli from FC Sion, from 2.8 million to 2 million euros. “Balotelli is simply not performing well in Switzerland. In addition to a few good passes, he is particularly noticeable with complaints, listlessness, the fact that he does not work backwards and taunts such as his stinky finger against Basel fans. We also devalued him accordingly because of his advanced age of 32,” explains David Isler, Area Manager Transfermarkt CH.
In addition to Rieder, the big winner is Basel midfield talent Burger, who has increased by 1.7 million to 3 million euros and is only just behind the Super League top ten. The 21-year-old Dutchman is an integral part of coach Alex Frei’s team and sometimes wore the captain’s armband.
This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
