All players rerated
Transfermarkt.it has provided all Serie A players with a new market value and the race for Italy’s most valuable squad has become even closer than the final sprint in the title fight – but with the same outcome. For the first time in ten years, AC Milan is back in first place in the market value ranking, even though the champions have also had ten devaluations in the millions. Besides Milan, the biggest winners are AS Roma and Udinese Calcio.
There is a new career high for Milan attacker Rafael Leão, who climbs from 50 million to 70 million euros. Jatin Dietl, Area Manager IT, says: “Leão is the player of the Scudetto! Not long ago, it seemed like his head wasn’t 100 percent on it and more on his future rap career—until it clicked. This season he kept getting better and more consistent, so that in the hot phase of the season he could practically decide the games single-handedly.”
As a result, the Portuguese winger, who joined from LOSC Lille in 2019 for €29.5m, is now among the ten most valuable footballers in Serie A, while Juve forward Dušan Vlahović maintains the top position. Also from France, Pierre Kalulu joined Milan in 2020 – Lyon received €1.2m for his homegrown talent, which has now been upgraded from €17m to €28m and is one of the ten most valuable central defenders in the league.
Milan Dominate: Biggest Market Value Winners Serie A (June 2022)
“Regardless of whether as a central or external defender, Kalulu has blossomed into a top performer this season and is symbolic of the development of the team. At the age of 21, he is already as tough on the ball as players over 30 and thanks to him Milan were able to cope with the absences of Davide Calabria and Simon Kjaer without any problems,” said Dietl. Despite 13 devaluations, the Rossoneri increased their squad value by 42 million to 522 million euros, overtaking Inter Milan (-14 to 515 million) and Juventus Turin (-35 to 521 million) – this constellation was the last time the squad values were there in 2012.
In 2012, Robin Gosens was still playing in the U19 team at VfL Rhede. This time there is the biggest minus of all Inter professionals for the German national player after nine upgrades in the last four years. The Nerazzuri signed him for the left winger on loan plus an obligation to buy for 15 million euros.
“Gosens came in winter as a future replacement for Ivan Perisic. Thanks to his outstanding season finale, Gosens has hardly gotten any playing time so far and if the Croatian had extended instead of joining Tottenham, this could have continued – now Gosens should have his regular place for 2022/23. Nevertheless, we had to correct his market value, on the one hand because of the relatively low transfer fee and on the other hand because he had an unusually few minutes this season after his compulsory break, ”explains Dietl the minus.
With Rebic, Dybala & Co.: Biggest market value losers in Serie A (June 2022)
Nicola Zalewski, a Roma talent who probably didn’t even have his current coach on the list a year ago, got an unusually large amount of playing time. José Mourinho promoted the homegrown player from the U19s to the first team at the start of the season and has regularly relied on the left midfielder since the end of February.
“Zalewski was thrown in at the deep end by Mourinho because the return of long-term absentee Leonardo Spinazzola was delayed and new signing Matías Viña was a complete disappointment. Zalewski has not only established himself in the starting eleven, but was also one of the top performers when they won the Conference League – Roma’s first title in over ten years,” said Dietl about the Polish national player’s major upgrade from 2.5 million to 12 Million Euro.
Away from the European ranks, Udinese Calcio’s Argentinian right-back Nahuel Molina has secured the biggest plus, doubling his market value from €10m to €20m.
“After a strong first Serie A season in 2020/21, Molina’s expectations were extremely high. But with the Copa América in the legs and the increased pressure, things didn’t go as planned in the first half of the season. In the last few months he has been able to find his way back to his former strengths and, in addition to an increasing form curve, has also made a name for himself with a dream goal. Various big clubs have put out feelers for him, including Juventus and Atlético Madrid, but Udine knows what it is about him and is only willing to talk from 30 million euros,” says Dietl.
Upgrades and devaluations for ex-Bundesliga professionals: Biggest minus for Rebic
There are also market value changes for these ex-Bundesliga professionals and players on loan: Nicolás González (Florence, +1 to 25mn), Ante Rebic (Milan, -5 to 17mn), Nadiem Amiri (Genoa, -1 to 8mn .), Diego Demme (Napoli, -2 to 8m), Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Roma, -2 to 8m), Walace (Udine, +0.5 to 5m), Michaël Cuisance (Venezia, -1 to 4m) and Ricardo Rodríguez (Torino, +1.4 to 3.4m).
This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
