Market values Schalke 04: Jenz, Krauss and Kral with million plus

Bundesliga update

As a result of the direct relegation from the Bundesliga, the squad value of FC Schalke 04 also fell – but before the most valuable players left the club on July 1, it was only slightly by 1.4 million to around 59 million euros. In the second half of the season, the Royal Blues fought back the chance of staying up, albeit unsuccessfully in the end, and many a player also found their way into the notebooks of sportingly more successful clubs. In addition to a total of 15 devaluations, there is a million plus for Moritz Jenz (24), Tom Krauß (21) and Alex Kral (25).

After the update, Jenz is Schalke’s most valuable player with a market value of EUR 7.5 million (+2 million). “Coming to Germany as a fairly unknown person, he was able to convince immediately with his physique and proved to be a very good loan player. In the summer there is a move to Wolfsburg for 8 million euros, which again underlines his suitability for the Bundesliga,” says market value administrator Tobias Kröger about the central defender who was loaned from FC Lorient.

Kral also remains in the Bundesliga, increasing by 1.5 million to 7 million euros. “Kral is one of the winners of the Schalke season. With his performance in midfield, he was able to seize the opportunity and recommend himself for Union Berlin. There his path leads him to the Champions League,” says market value expert Julius Weißenstein (Savarez03). It is undisputed that Krauss, plus EUR 1 million to EUR 7 million, will play for a top division team next season. The midfielder is returning to RB Leipzig for the time being, but is said to have aroused interest in Mönchengladbach, Frankfurt and Mainz, among others.

Balanta and Frey under devalued Schalke players – small Bülter plus

Éder Balanta (30) and Michael Frey (28), who signed in the winter with little success, receive performance-related devaluations at Schalke – both fall by one million to two million euros. “Six” Balanta has not been used since April due to injury and has only played 239 Bundesliga minutes in total. After all, Frey was on the field for 873 minutes in 15 games, but did not score a goal of his own and only prepared three goals. This is a rather disappointing development after he had previously attracted attention at the Belgian champions Royal Antwerpen.

Marius Bülter, who scored eleven goals in 33 games at the end of the season and was Schalke’s top scorer, fared significantly better than Frey. The 30-year-old attacker is primarily associated with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and will probably leave the Revierklub despite a contract that runs until 2025. The fact that it’s not higher than 500,000 to 3 million euros is due to Bülter’s age and very late breakthrough – factors that make higher transfer fees in the coming years rather unlikely, despite possibly good performances.

This is how the Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.

The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
