Market values: Rare minus for Ajax Amsterdam – Xavi Simons wins

Grillitsch among losers

Transfermarkt.nl has updated the market values in the Dutch Eredivisie, causing a rare loss for record champions Ajax Amsterdam. Instead, it is primarily the players from leaders Feyenoord Rotterdam who are rewarded with an increase in market value. The biggest winner, meanwhile, is Xavi Simons at fourth-placed PSV Eindhoven.

The 19-year-old offensive talent is playing by far the best season of his young career, which has been heavily covered by the media, and has finally established himself in the men’s division. Arrived on a free transfer in the summer after a disappointing spell at Paris Saint-Germain, Simons has become an absolute top performer in Eindhoven.

With twelve goals and seven assists, the right-footed player is one of the best scorers in the league and was rewarded in December by then Bonds coach Louis van Gaal with participation in the World Cup in Qatar, where he won his first international match in the round of 16. After an initial plus in the November update (+8 to 18 million euros), Simons’ market value is now making the next significant jump to 30 million euros.

Eredivisie market values: Ajax lose slightly, Feyenoord and PSV win

Eindhoven boast two other winners of the update in right winger Johan Bakayoko (+4.5m to 9m) and centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite (+4m to 7m) and stay ahead in terms of squad value with this big increase (+18m to 202.4m). .) in second place in terms of squad value. Table leader Feyenoord took third place, even taking a big step towards PSV and record champions Ajax, who have been dominating for years. From 149.3 million to 182 million euros.

Responsible for this in the team of trainer Arne Slot are primarily summer newcomers from the defensive network. Central defender David Hancko came from Sparta Prague for 6m euros, sweeper Mats Wieffer for 575,000 euros from Excelsior Rotterdam and left-back Quilindschy Hartman from his own youth – after the update and revaluations by 7.5m, 6m and 5.5 million, this trio alone is worth 33.5 million euros. In addition, right-back Lutsharel Geertruida, who has been in the professional squad since 2018, is also clearly up (+6 to €18 million).

With €274.2m, Ajax Amsterdam are still clearly in the lead, three points behind Feyenoord in the table and recording a rare minus of €1m. In the past, the club in the capital regularly went up due to the high number of talents in the updates, in the transfer windows these were mostly sold and thus caused the squad value to decrease again.

This year, however, several players in Johnny Heitinga’s team, who took over from Alfred Schreuder in January, are disappointing. In addition to Steven Bergwijn (-3 to 24 million), Owen Wijndal (-2 to 10 million) and ex-Leipzig player Brian Brobbey (-1 to 13 million), former Hoffenheim player Florian Grillitsch (-2 to 8 million), who has not been able to assert himself at all since his free summer transfer, and with Jurrien Timber the most valuable player in the league.

Despite a €3m devaluation, Timber remains at the top of the Eredivisie with €42m. “He would probably have lost even more market value if he weren’t so young and if the rumors linking him to some of the biggest clubs in the world had dissipated,” explains Kevin Lux, Content Manager NL at Transfermarkt .

The fact that Ajax’s squad value minus is not even greater is due to one of the few positive surprises: Mohammed Kudus. The 22-year-old is the most successful offensive player with 23 goals and should be one of the candidates for a step into a top league in the summer. He climbs from 20 million to 30 million euros – together with Simons and Feyenoords Orkun Kökcü (+3 million), Kudus is fourth in the league in the market value ranking.

About Kudus, Netherlands expert Lux says: “He is perhaps the biggest winner of the coaching change at Ajax. Under Schreuder he was a centre-forward and had to fight for his place with Brian Brobbey, but under Heitinga he became a regular on the right-hand side of attack. He’s probably the most important player at Ajax at the moment.”

This is how the Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.

The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
