Goals & highlights from Benfica striker Darwin Núñez

Things are going well for Uruguay’s eight-time national team player this season: 22 goals in 21 games speak for themselves, and the right-footed player was also able to convince in the Champions League against Ajax Amsterdam. “When he gets going, he’s a fast, physically strong striker who is difficult to defend,” says Portugal expert Marcel de Almeida of Transfermarkt.pt about Núñez. “He’s still showing one or two technical flaws at the moment, but at 22 he’s a striker sought after by many top clubs.” Benfica are said to have turned down an offer of €40m for Núñez at the end of the winter transfer window.

Another winner of Transfermarkt.pt’s interim update is Porto striker Evanilson. The 22-year-old increased his market value by eleven million to now 20 million euros. In the last eight league games, the Brazilian has scored eight times and, together with the Iranian Mehdi Taremi (from 15 to 17 million euros), forms one of the most prolific offensive lines in the league with the 29-time champions.

“Signed by Tombense in the summer of 2020 for almost 9 million euros, the investment for Porto has already paid off. If he continues to develop so well, he will bring in a decent transfer fee for the ‘Dragon’ in the next few years,” sums up de Almeida. The largest percentage increase in market value was recorded by Braga’s offensive power Vitinha. The 21-year-old, who has been involved in eight goals in 16 games this season, has tripled his market value from 2 to 6 million euros.

Last year’s top scorer suffered a slight loss: Sporting’s Pedro Gonçalves lost a total of 3 million euros in value and thus also the status of the most valuable player in the league. The 23-year-old has not been able to match the performance and goal quota of the previous season and has repeatedly struggled with injuries. “But when he’s fit, he’s still one of the best and brightest players in the league. It remains to be seen whether he will find his old form again at the end of the season and then dare the next step to a top club in the summer, ”says de Almeida about the right winger, whose exit clause in the contract, which runs until 2026, is estimated at 80 million euros.

There was also a devaluation for the former Hertha professional Marko Grujic. The 26-year-old loan from Liverpool FC has not yet gone beyond the status of a supplementary player at FC Porto, and its market value fell by one million to now 12 million euros. Grujic will be signed after the end of the loan deal next summer for a fee of 9 million euros. The former Frankfurt player Haris Seferovic (from 14 to 10 million euros) as well as the two Benfica veterans and ex-Premier League professionals Jan Vertonghen (from 4 to 3 million) and Nicolás Otamendi (from 6 to 4.5 million .) had to accept losses.

This is how the Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
