Update after the Clausura
The Clausura of the Paraguayan Primera División has ended and champions Libertad from Asunción are the big winners in the market value update. “El Gumarelo” increases the squad value by 5 million to 21.95 million euros, moving closer to Cerro Porteño (+3 to 23.65 million) and record champions Olimpia (-1.9 to 25.9 million). The big market value winners are primarily the top talents in the league, but with Libertad’s Héctor Villalba, who increased by 0.5 million to 3 million euros, an established player jumps to second place in the ranking.
The 29-year-old right winger is having by far his best year since moving from Atlanta United to Paraguay in January 2020. In the Clausura, Villalba contributed six goals and eight assists to the title and in the Copa Sudamericana he recorded three assists. In addition, the Argentina-born attacker was called up to Paraguay’s national team for the first time since 2018 in October.
Villalba overtakes Cerro Porteños Jorge Morel (-0.2 to 2.8 million) and Olimpia’s Derlis González (-0.8 to 2.5 million) in the Primera División market value ranking. The 25-year-old defender performed well at “El Ciclón”, but his adventure in Europe with Adana Demirspor ultimately turned out to be unsuccessful in the long term. Morel subsequently returned to Paraguay and therefore loses market value. González, meanwhile, was in the form of his life just a year ago and a multi-million dollar move seemed only a matter of time – until the striker seriously injured his knee again. He only returned in October, but recently confirmed that the timing may have been too early. He remained without a goal in nine Clausura games. This is also why Olimpia, who eliminated Flamengo in the Copa Libertadores in the summer, ultimately ended up in fifth place.
Market values Paraguay: Giménez below the million mark for the first time – attracting talent
Enzo Giménez is once again among the losers. The winger, who was once one of the most promising talents in Paraguay, did not get beyond the joker role at Cerro Porteño in either the Apertura or the Clausura. At the beginning of the year he was valued at 1.8 million euros, but after his third loss in a row the 25-year-old is now only at 0.9 million and is therefore below the million mark for the first time ever.
Meanwhile, there are some big talents among the top winners in Paraguay, especially Libertad’s Rubén Lezcano. In terms of status, the 19-year-old attacking midfielder has taken over the place of attacker Enso González (18) in the team, who moved to Wolverhampton for a whopping €6 million after his breakthrough aperture. Lezcano can certainly be expected to generate similar interest – he has initially risen from 0.7 million to 2.5 million euros and is now the fourth most valuable player in Paraguay. His teammate Rodrigo Villalba (17; starting value at one million), Cerro’s defensive talent Lucas Quintana (18; +1.2 to 1.5 million) and winger Romeo Benítez (21; +1 to 1.5 million) from Club Guaraní are players who could soon attract interest from Europe, the USA, Mexico or Argentina.
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
