After the departures of Jurriën Timber and Xavi Simons, the Dutch league once again has a player with a market value of 40 million euros or more. The fact that he plays with Santiago Gimenez at Feyenoord underlines an exciting development: In the update in the Eredivisie, Rotterdam and PSV Eindhoven are continuing to make strong gains, while the struggling record champions Ajax Amsterdam have to focus more and more on individual bright spots.
Gimenez confirmed his previous year’s form for the reigning champions in the first few months of the new season and can now call himself the league’s most valuable player. The Mexican attacker increases by 15 million euros, making him the biggest winner of the update alongside Johan Bakayoko from PSV.

“The only caveat with Gimenez is that he hasn’t been able to play a minute in the Champions League due to a suspension. If the attacker manages to assert himself there, his market value will only increase in the coming times,” says Kevin Lux, Transfermarkt Area Manager Netherlands, about the striker, who was traded for BVB and Eintracht Frankfurt. After eight championship games, Gimenez already has twelve goals this season and two assists.

Upgrading and room for improvement at Bakayoko – looking for a bright spot at Ajax
Bakayoko, on the other hand, was also able to show herself on the international stage. In qualifying for the Champions League, he made his contribution to participation in the premier class with four assists in four games. Paris Saint-Germain in particular had put out feelers for the 20-year-old, but he decided to stay at PSV for another year. “Although Bakayoko is regularly dangerous with his dribbling, his statistics are still a bit disappointing,” comments Lux. One goal and six assists in 15 competitive games leave room for improvement. “Therefore, Transfermarkt has opted for a slower increase in valuation,” said the expert. Plus 15 million euros makes a new valuation of 25 million euros. Bakayoko replaces 28-year-old Hirving Lozano (-3 to 22 million euros) as the most valuable player in Eindhoven.
At Ajax Amsterdam you can only dream of comparable upgrades. If the squad value at Feyenoord goes up by 61 million euros and at PSV by almost 42 million, the dethroned series champion has to be content with a mini-plus of barely more than 4 million euros (for the development of the squad values). The fact that things aren’t even going down is thanks to the capital city’s up-and-coming talents. In the sporting crisis, the attention is on the current table 16th. thus to the bright spots. One such player is the 17-year-old defensive talent Jorrel Hato, who has increased by 5 million euros, the same as PSV winger Noa Lang. There was a big increase with 3.5 million to 5 million euros for young professional Benjamin Tahirovic (20) and with 5 million to 10 million euros for Hato. “The fact that we are increasing Hato’s value so much is also due to the fact that young central defenders are doing well on the international transfer market and, despite the dramatic start to the season, Ajax still enjoys the reputation of producing highly qualified talent abroad,” says expert Lux. Hato is already rising the second most valuable central defender up to the age of 17. Even in the age group up to 19 years old, only four talents in the defense center are rated higher than the Rotterdam native in Amsterdam.
