Ex-Bundesliga professionals are increasing
Newly formed St. Louis CITY SC is the big winner in MLS market value update. As a result, some former Bundesliga pros, whom manager Lutz Pfannenstiel brought to Missouri, are also gaining ground.
Former Hoffenheim’s João Klauss (26), who scored five goals in his first five league games, rose by a million to now €4 million. The former Hertha player Eduard Löwen (26), who is also a regular player and in St. Louis’ premiere season, has already had four goals after the 5th matchday, has recorded an even larger percentage increase. Also with a plus of one million euros, its valuation increases by 50 percent to 3 million euros – its highest value after five devaluations since 2020.
While St. Louis players have either been upgraded or given market value for the first time, Atlanta United’s Thiago Almada (21) is again the North American league’s most valuable player. The Argentine world champion, the only one in MLS, contributed eight goals (4 goals, 4 assists) in four games this season and, after being devalued in the meantime, returns to his previous career high (in the employ of Vélez Sarsfield). This means an appreciation of 5 million to 20 million euros.

Thiago Almada to Europe “only a matter of time”
“Thiago Almada is the trendsetter in MLS,” said Dominic Becker, TM Market Value Admin for North America. “Looking back, it’s not surprising that he was nominated for the World Cup. This season he has made another significant development step forward. A move to Europe is only a matter of time.”
Regarding the upgraded ex-Bundesliga professionals in St. Louis and the strong upgrade of the team as a whole, Becker explains: “The historic start has led to many increases in market value. Pfannenstiel has built a strong squad around Klauss and Löwen. The two led the squad and were fundamental to the club’s strong start.” The biggest addition to St. Louis, however, was midfielder Miguel Perez, just 17 years old, whose first market value is €2 million. Among the well-known names from Germany, the former Cologne resident Tomás Ostrák (23) recorded a further increase of EUR 750,000 to a new career high of EUR 1.5 million. Ex-Armine Joakim Nilsson (29) and long-time BVB keeper Roman Bürki remain unchanged at 3.5 and 1.5 million euros respectively.
This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
