Chelsea loanee Slonina on the rise
After the end of the transfer period in the United States, Transfermarkt.us analyzed the market values of 779 players in North American Major League Soccer. There is a lot of movement at the front as a result. New leader in the market value ranking is Toronto newcomer Lorenzo Insigne, despite the minus. Meanwhile, German legionnaires like Jasper Loffelsend (24) are being upgraded.
Insigne joined Toronto on a free transfer from SSC Napoli at the start of the transfer window. Since then, the 31-year-old has scored two goals and set up another in five games across all competitions. Due to age and his move to a weaker league, the 54-time Italian international has lost 5 million euros. Its new market value is 20 million euros.
One of the rising stars this season is undoubtedly Gabriel Slonina. The 18-year-old goalkeeper, who joined Chelsea FC for $10m in early August and was loaned back straight away, has increased his rating from 3m to 7.5m. Euro. This puts him in the top 25 most valuable MLS professionals and in the top 10 most valuable players born in 2004.
Slonina, Vazquez & Cio.: Biggest Winners of MLS Update (August 2022)
The biggest winner among clubs is New York City FC. Overall, the team from the Big Apple has increased by EUR 10.15 million. The reason for this is the revaluations of the many South Americans. The most valuable of the team is the 20-year-old Brazilian Talles Magno, who is the club’s top scorer after the departure of Taty Castellanos (23) and has increased his market value by 42.9 percent from 7 to 10 million euros. His colleagues Nicolás Acevedo (23) and Thiago Andrade (21) each posted an increase from 2.5 to 4 million euros. Gabriel Pereira (21) is now worth 4 million euros (formerly 3 million).
In addition to New York City FC, FC Cincinnati also saw some major gains. Above all, Brandon Vazquez should be mentioned here. Like Slonina, the 23-year-old striker is one of the high-flyers. While the American has generally never progressed beyond the status of joker in recent years, he is now fully repaying the trust of coach Pat Noonan in his first season as a regular player. In 24 missions so far, the attacker has scored 15 hits. This performance explosion is reflected in its market value. Vazquez increased a whopping 900 percent from 500,000 to 5 million euros.
Update MLS: Minus for old stars – German legionnaires on the rise
In addition to the insignia already mentioned, his Italian compatriots and teammates Federico Bernardeschi (28) and Domenico Criscito (35) are also going down. The latter is devalued from 600,000 to 400,000 euros due to age, Bernardeschi even loses 2 million euros in value after moving to Toronto (from 10 to 8 million).
Age-related cuts were also made in the case of Xherdan Shaqiri (30; from 7 to 5 million), Christian Benteke (31; from 6 to 5 million), Raúl Ruidíaz (32; from 8 to 6 million) and Gustavo Bou (32 ; from 6 to 5 million). Ex-Real professional Gareth Bale (33) remains at 3 million euros after his free transfer to Los Angeles FC.
After the update: The 25 most valuable players in MLS

The Cologne-born midfielder surprisingly managed to secure a regular place at Real Salt Lake City in his debut season. So far, the 24-year-old has played 22 out of a possible 25 games. As a result, its market value increases by 566.7 percent from EUR 150,000 to EUR 1 million.

Wagner, in whom Leeds United, among others, are said to be interested, increases by one to 4 million euros. The remaining German legionnaires around Hany Mukhtar (27) were all able to confirm their market value. This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
