Transfermarkt also updated the market values in the Spanish LaLiga2 shortly before the turn of the year. Yeremay Hernández (23) from Deportivo La Coruña equals the highest valuation of a second division professional in the world, while Jeremy Arévalo (20), who is about to move to VfB Stuttgart, receives the biggest plus from this update. The Ecuadorian international striker’s club, Racing Santander, is not only top of the table, but also receives the largest in terms of squad value, with an increase of 14.6 million to 51.9 million euros. In LaLiga2 no team is ranked higher.
However, winger Hernández is still at the top of the player rankings by a large margin. The former Spanish U21 international increased by 5 million to 25 million euros, making up exactly 50 percent of the squad value of former champions Dépor. No second division professional in the world has a higher market value than Hernández, who is on a par with Hayden Hackney (22) from English championship team FC Middlesbrough in this discipline. Behind them is a larger squad of players around the record holder of the 2nd Bundesliga, Kennet Eichhorn (16, Hertha BSC).

With a dozen goals (seven goals/five assists) at the end of the first half of the season, Hernández is the figurehead of Antonio Hidalgo’s Dépor, a clear contender for promotion and the most valuable professional the club has ever had. “The last transfer window showed that the Segunda División is the focus of European football, with a total of five transfers over 10 million euros,” explains Transfermarkt’s market value admin for Spanish football, Tobias Blaseio. “Yeremay could have been among them too, but Deportivo rejected an offer from Sporting worth more than 30 million euros. There are currently more rumors about his future, with FC Barcelona also among those interested.”
The biggest winner of the update, with an increase of 6 million euros to 7 million euros, is the designated VfB signing Arévalo. With eight goals in 18 games, the talent is one of this season’s discoveries and has caught the attention of teams from several countries. On January 2nd, “Bild” last reported, Stuttgart is said to want to pull the exit clause in its contract for 7 million euros, which expires in 2027. Blaseio predicts: “The German club will probably build him up gradually so that he can compete with Deniz Undav and Ermedin Demirovic in the medium term. Arévalo made his debut for Ecuador in November and has made his big breakthrough this season at Racing Santander, where he has impressed with his dynamism, toughness in tackles and goal instinct.”
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
