Update J1 League
Transfermarkt.jp has completely revised the market values in the Japanese J1 League and has largely made devaluations for over 30 professionals who moved to Asia in the autumn of their career. For example, the former Hanoverian Hiroki Sakai received a minus for the second time in a row, but remained the most valuable player in the league.
Last summer, after nine years in Europe, the 32-year-old switched from Olympique Marseille to the Urawa Red Diamonds for 1.5 million euros. At that time, the right-back’s market value was still €4m, a downgrade in December has now been followed by the step from €3.5m to €2.5m. Before the update, this value would not have been enough for the top position in the league, but only three professionals from the top 15 were not devalued, which is why Sakai is still ahead.
Two more familiar faces from the Bundesliga also went down. Ex-Mainzer Yoshinori Muto (29), who is surprisingly in last place with Vissel Kobe, loses 300,000 euros and is now listed at 2.2 million euros. For Hiroshi Kiyotake (32), formerly of 1. FC Nürnberg and Hannover 96, it’s down by 200,000 to 1.4 million.
Meanwhile, Muto, who has scored three goals in 12 league games, is not Kobe’s only disappointment. The 2019 cup winners, who finished third in last season, only won two of their 18 games in the J1 League and, as the team that used to be the most valuable team, recorded the greatest loss in squad value. A total of €3.2m is at stake for Andrés Iniesta (38; -0.3 to €1.5m), Yuya Osako (32; -0.1 to €0.9m), Bojan Krkic ( 30; -0.1 to €0.6 million) and Co. down. The Urawa Red Diamonds are new at the top, although they have also been devalued from EUR 23.1 million to EUR 21.1 million.
One of the few upgrades in the league goes to the current top scorer, Ayase Ueda of the Kashima Antlers. The 23-year-old center forward scored ten times in 18 games and was recently associated with Schalke 04 and SC Freiburg, among others. The step to Europe should only be a matter of time, the fourth plus in a row the logical consequence. With €1.5 million (+€300,000), the 1.82 meter tall right-footed player is one of the 20 most valuable professionals in the Japanese league (to the statistics).

This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
