Only 3 professionals in three digits
In April 2018, the most valuable eleven broke the billion mark for the first time, the eleven professionals around the then Bayern defender Mats Hummels collected a market value of 1.1 billion euros. In 2022, too, the selection of stars will surpass this enormous mark – but at 1.03 billion euros, it will be closer than ever. Against the background of the corona pandemic, the transfer market has changed, even if huge transfer fees continue to be paid at the top – and a generational change is in full swing. That’s why there are fewer players with a market value of at least 100 million euros than there have been for a long time – to be more precise, only three in number.
At the top and well ahead of all other professionals are PSG striker Kylian Mbappé (23) and Erling Haaland (21), still in the service of Borussia Dortmund with 160 million and 150 million euros respectively. With their recently signed new contracts, one in Paris, the other with Manchester City, the goalscorers have proven that they are the top stars in the football business for years to come and are therefore the legitimate successors to Cristiano Ronaldo (37) and Lionel Messi (34). Without being absolutely certain that they will be able to match their sporting records over a long period of time.
World’s Most Valuable XI 2018, 2019 and 2020
When Haaland leaves the Bundesliga on June 30, Munich left-back Alphonso Davies (21) will be the last remaining player from the German upper house in the most valuable eleven in the world. This is dominated by five professionals from the Premier League. England internationals Phil Foden (22) and Declan Rice (23) are players potentially capable of breaking the 100m circle – as are their BVB compatriot Jude Bellingham (18) and Spain’s Pedri ( 19) from FC Barcelona. Trent Alexander-Arnold (23) from Liverpool FC had even done this before Corona.
His teammate Mohamed Salah (30) was recently devalued below the 100 million mark due to age. In December 2021, Vinícius Júnior (21), who then shot Real Madrid to the Champions League victory with his goal in the final, had skipped it.

This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
