Update Primera Division
Top scorer Fernando Lesme is among the biggest winners of Costa Rica’s update of the non-World Championship Primera División drivers. The 20-year-old Paraguayan’s eight goals from Municipal Grecia more than doubled his market value from 100,000 to 225,000 euros. Julen Cordero recorded two goals less, but also a jump of 125,000 to 175,000 euros. The 21-year-old, who has been loaned to Guadalupe by Saprissa, is doing his first six months as a regular in Costa Rica.
The most valuable player in the league is now Anthony Contreras (photo). The 22-year-old from CS Herediano rose to €375,000 ahead of the World Cup and started in Qatar in the opening two games against Spain and Japan. Four legionnaires lurk behind them with market values of 350,000 euros each. Three strikers from the Caribbean share second place with the best foreign goalscorer in league history Marcel Hernández (33, Cartaginés), his Cuban compatriot Luis Paradela (25) and his Jamaican teammate at champion Saprissa, Javon East (27). There is also Panamanian international Freddy Góndola (27) from Alajuelense.
On the other hand, Rolando Blackburn, who Alajuelense brought in in the summer and who has already had to leave, was disappointed. The 32-year-old striker drops from 350,000 to 250,000 euros. His team-mate and goalkeeper Leonel Moreira missed out on being included in the World Cup squad after several serious mistakes and is now worth EUR 225,000 (-EUR 50,000). For CS Herediano’s Orlando Galo, the possible one-year doping ban, because of which the 22-year-old was not nominated for the World Cup, has no consequences. With the midfielder still having time to appeal, his market value remains at €300,000 for now.

The past champion Cartaginés (-330,000 euros) is generally falling sharply. After the historical title in the summer, the performances of the spring could not be continued in the autumn. While there has been little change on the player side, champion coach Geiner Segura, now in charge at Herediano, has been replaced by Paulo Wanchope.
