498 players updated
At the beginning of the year, Florian Wirtz (20) and Serge Gnabry (28) were only separated by 5 million euros in terms of market value – as of today, the Leverkusen player is 55 million euros ahead of the Munich player and is rising to new heights. In the course of the market value update, in which all 498 Bundesliga players were updated, FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund are the biggest losers, while five professionals from four different clubs received an increase of 10 million euros or more.
Wirtz secured the biggest increase, rising by 15 million euros to 100 million euros, making him only the third German footballer to break this mark. “After fantastic performances this season, Wirtz is promoted to the so-called ‘100 Club’. Creativity, goal threat and outstanding dribbling – Wirtz offers an extremely interesting profile on the transfer market and is probably at the top of the wish list of almost every top team,” says market value admin Tobias Kröger.
In addition to the attacking midfielder, the still unbeaten league leaders from Leverkusen recorded seven further upgrades, including that of Alejandro Grimaldo (28). TM market value admin Frederic Hillmann (“DonRoxy”) explains the left-back’s 10 million euro jump to 35 million euros: “It’s probably the transfer coup of the summer. Exceptional scoring values for his position are combined with an impressive skillset that makes him suitable for top clubs. We no longer considered his advanced age to be a decisive factor because his outstanding performance and qualities do not depend significantly on his speed.” No left-back in any of the top leagues worldwide has recorded more scorers than the Spaniard’s twelve.
With Grimaldo, Undav & Wirtz: The biggest winners in the Bundesliga update
The “Werkself” has also made significant gains in terms of squad value. Their increase from 39.3 million to 562.55 million euros underlines their second place as the league’s most valuable team behind FC Bayern (931.95 million euros) and is only surpassed by the surprise third place VfB Stuttgart, which was a whopping 42.7 million euros to 222.6 million euros, almost doubling its valuation since September. The biggest winner for the Swabians is striker Deniz Undav (27; +7 to 17 million euros). “He is one of the high-flyers of the current season. Thanks to eight goals in eleven league games, which no other German kicker has surpassed, he has become one of the DFB’s hopes for the upcoming home European Championship. Although it can certainly be described as a ‘late starter’, it has developed very strongly in the last few months,” explains expert Kröger. Other VfB beneficiaries include Angelo Stiller (22; +6.5 to 14 million euros) and Chris Führich (25; +5 to 17 million euros).
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson (19) has also developed strongly. Despite his young age, he “fitted in brilliantly in his Bundesliga debut season and impresses with his calmness, calmness on the ball and a strategic skill that is remarkable for his age,” said Hillmann. The midfield talent will be rewarded with an increase from 11 million euros – the largest in the update after Wirtz – to 28 million euros, making him the most valuable SGE professional. He is followed by Willian Pacho (22; +7 million euros) with 24 million euros as of now.
Bundesliga update: 6 devaluations for Gnabry at FC Bayern – Sané convinced
While Larsson reaches a new personal high, Gnabry falls after a loss of 10 million euros at 45 million euros, a valuation he last held in May 2019. “Serge Gnabry is unfortunately the big loser of the market value update. The national player has seen a significant decline in his scorers and is currently extremely unlucky with injuries. His competitors Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman are currently far ahead of him. This season is one to forget for Gnabry,” says Kröger about the right winger, who is currently out due to a muscle tendon injury in the left adductor area. A broken forearm had previously left him unable to watch for several weeks. There is still no scorer and only 228 minutes of playing time in Gnabry’s meager Bundesliga record this year.
BVB often represented: The biggest losers in the Bundesliga update
The trend is downward for five other professionals from the record champions, who always have fluctuating performances, including Matthijs de Ligt (24; -5 to 65 million euros), Leon Goretzka (28; -5 to 40 million euros) and Thomas Müller (34; -2 to 10 million euros), who is currently only coach Thomas Tuchel’s second choice. Sané, on the other hand, is one of only three FCB winners. The 27-year-old has scored eight goals and seven assists in 13 games to date and is now as many scorers as in the entire last season – as a result, his market value has increased from 75 to 80 million euros.
BVB biggest squad value loser – Bynoe-Gittens stands out positively
At the weakening BVB, the biggest loser in terms of squad value with a loss of 24.2 million euros (to 439.4 million), the ratio is even more drastic: only two devaluations compared to ten devaluations. With Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (19), the Black and Yellows at least have one of the players in their ranks who is gaining the most. “In a Dortmund offensive that is disappointing in terms of the quality that is actually there, he is one of the few bright spots. With his speed, his dribbling and one-on-one skills, he is a type of player that is very much in demand on the market,” says Hillmann about the winger, for whom the price goes up from 18 to 28 million euros.
In contrast, four of the five most clearly devalued players are from Dortmund. These include Niklas Süle (28) and Karim Adeyemi (21), who fell by 8 million and 7 million euros respectively – similar reasons are crucial for their losses. For Süle (now valued at 22 million euros), according to Hillmann, “a further devaluation could not be avoided, as his increasingly difficult position in the national team correlates with weaker performances at BVB, where he is no longer an undisputed regular player.” Adeyemi (28 million euros) is also “currently in a sporting crisis after a strong second half of the season and missing the championship,” emphasizes Kröger. “In the Bundesliga this season he only managed almost 360 minutes of action without a goal and the DFB team also recently went without his services, which means a significant loss of status overall.”
Other notable market value changes include RB Leipzig’s Loïs Openda (23), who is third on the top scorers list and jumps from 45 to 55 million euros, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s top youngster Rocco Reitz (21; +6 to 10 million euros), who has one of the largest percentage gains with a value of 150, and Heidenheim’s Jan-Niklas Beste (24; +5 to 12 million euros), who is among Europe’s top assist providers with eight assists.

This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
