Union SG is gaining the most
The market value update in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League ensures a best value in the league’s history – namely due to Arthur Vermeeren from Royal Antwerp, who is now valued at 30 million euros thanks to an increase of 5 million euros. Only Charles De Ketelaere (22) previously achieved this market value in Belgium before moving from FC Brugge to AC Milan for the same amount in the summer of 2022.
“Vermeeren is the outstanding talent in the Belgian league,” says area manager Bart Tamsyn, explaining the new record. “Despite being only 18 years old, he shows consistent performances at a high level, is attracting interest from numerous top clubs from abroad and has now also completed his first senior international matches. By the summer at the latest, the Jupiler Pro League will probably be a league too small for him and he will take the step abroad.”
Second place in the league-wide ranking is also taken by Bilal El Khannouss, a talent who will sooner or later be seen in a top league. The 19-year-old midfielder from KRC Genk, who was in the Moroccan World Cup squad last year, increases his market value from 18 million to 22 million euros in the current update.
Vermeeren, Orban & Co.: The most valuable players in the Jupiler Pro League
The most valuable trio in the league is completed by Andreas Skov Olsen (23) from FC Brugge, who maintains his market value but benefits from the fact that teammate Antonio Nusa (18) and Gift Orban (21) have to accept losses. Nusa, still highly gifted but repeatedly set back by injuries, loses 3 million and is now at 17 million euros, while Orban is down by 5 million euros. “The shooting star of the second half of the 2022/23 season has no longer been as accurate in the past few weeks and months as he was after his arrival at KAA Gent, when he was able to score goals at will. “So far he has only scored three goals in 15 appearances in the league and has lost his regular place,” says Tamsyn, describing the significant slump.
Overall, the update brings the top teams in the league closer together in terms of market value. While FC Brugge lost around 14 million euros in squad value and is now almost on a par with Antwerp and Genk, Gent is approaching the 100 million mark despite the Orban minus, which RSC Anderlecht has broken again for the first time since mid-2020 becomes.
After difficult years, the record champions are currently in second place, which is partly due to the accurate Danish duo Anders Dreyer (25) and Kasper Dolberg (26), who are among the top goalscorers in the league. Thanks to appreciations of 3 million and 3.5 million respectively, both now reach a market value of 10 million euros – for Dolberg it is the first plus since summer 2021.
In terms of market value, they are still a bit away from the top, but Anderlecht’s city rivals Royale Union Saint-Gilloise are comfortably in first place in the table. Despite numerous well-known departures in the summer, German coach Alexander Blessin’s team continues to impress as a collective in its new composition and managed 14 wins in 18 games. Consequently, the total value of the squad increases by 19.4 million to 66.8 million euros.
In addition to Japan’s national player Koki Machida (26, +3 million to 6 million euros) and Europe’s top assist provider Cameron Puertas (25, +3 million to 7 million euros), top goalscorer Mohamed Amoura (23) has his Share in the strong season and the increase in market value. “Amoura came from FC Lugano in the second Swiss league in the summer for 4 million euros, which is a remarkable transfer for Union. “He has long since recorded it again and is considered one of the great discoveries of this season,” says Tamsyn. “The market value of the Algerian international therefore climbs from 4.5 million to 10 million euros, which is the biggest increase in the current update.”
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
