Echeverri extends his lead

It’s been less than two months since River Plate sold its top talent Claudio Echeverri to Manchester City, and the focus is already on the next gem of the millionaires: Franco Mastantuono is just 16 years old and, according to the market value update, counts in the Argentine league on March 11th – with the very first rating of his career – already among the seven most valuable footballers born in 2007 worldwide. His upgrade is even greater than that of his predecessor and colleague Echeverri, who is going to England at the end of the year.
“Mastantuono is already a regular player in coach Martín Demichelis’ team, and although he is still a substitute, he shows unusual talent and character for his age,” says Scott Christensen, Transfermarkt Area Manager Argentina, explaining the upgrade, which is the biggest of the update . Mastantuono is valued at 4 million euros straight away.
Echeverri, who is only 18 himself, remains ranked as the second biggest winner. His increase from 3 million euros to 15 million euros, which Christensen attributes primarily to the transfer fee paid by Man City, allows the midfield youngster’s lead in the league’s market value ranking to continue to grow. Echeverri also jumps into the top 30 of the most valuable Argentine players in world football.
15 to 110 million: Most valuable Argentine footballers
Behind Echeverri, the current update formed a three-way battle for second place in the market value ranking. The 24-year-old Esequiel Barco (unchanged at €9m) has now been overtaken by two Boca Juniors players, Cristian Medina (+€0.5m) and Ezequiel Fernández (+€1m). About the two pursuers (both 21 years old), expert Christensen says: “They are irreplaceable at Boca, where the team’s performance is significantly affected if one of them is unavailable.” In fact, both players were missing at the start of the season at the beginning of the year due to dismissals Junior national teams to the South American qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games.
The biggest loser in the update is Exequiel Zeballos (21), also a Boca player. “The offensive talent is plagued by injuries and has not been able to play more than 750 minutes since the beginning of last year,” says Christensen, explaining the devaluation by 1.5 million euros to 5 million euros. The Uruguayan striker icon Edinson Cavani has even gone down by half the previous value, but this is due to his advanced age in the service of Boca, who is now 37 years old. The 136-time national player shone at the beginning of the month with a flawless hat trick within about a quarter of an hour in a 3-2 win against Belgrano.
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
