Market value update 3rd league: BVB talent Hendry Blank in the million-dollar club

Kamara now alone in front

The 3rd league has another player in the million-dollar club. Defensive talent Hendry Blank from Borussia Dortmund II gains the most in the latest update and increases by 600,000 euros to one million. BVB is the biggest winner, while the sporting situation at relegation-threatened MSV Duisburg is reflected in the squad value.

“The 19-year-old central defender, who is equipped with a strong left foot, was able to play his way into the Dortmund U23 starting line-up in his first year and attracted so much attention that Edin Terzic took him into professional training and then played him several times Matchday squads in the Bundesliga and Champions League,” says market value admin Johannes Netzer (“Jojo1860”) about Blank. The German U20 international is still waiting for his debut in the first team and instead played 13 games in the 3rd league this season and four more with the U19s in the Youth League. Only his Dortmund teammates Abdoulaye Kamara and Marcel Lotka are more valuable in the 3rd league than Blank.

While both shared the pole position until the end, Lotka has now lost out and Kamara has become the sole front runner with an estimate of 1.5 million euros. Lotka is down by 200,000 euros, making him the biggest loser of this update. “The 22-year-old goalkeeper is also playing exclusively in the 3rd league in the second season after moving from Hertha to Dortmund. A circumstance that the keeper had certainly hoped for would be different. Accordingly, Lotka has to cope with the first devaluation of his career,” says Netzer. Alessio Besio, who moved from FC St. Gallen to SC Freiburg II on a free transfer in the summer and has not yet played this season due to injury, will also be devalued by 200,000 euros.

One professional who will most likely make the move to the 2nd Bundesliga in the winter is Oliver Batista Meier. The former German junior international was recently loaned out to SC Verl by SG Dynamo Dresden and is returning to his home club early with an option. But there have long been media reports that a sale is being sought. SC Paderborn and HSV were named as interested parties.

“Oliver Batista Meier is perhaps the biggest shooting star of the first half of the season. He not only dribbled knots into the opponents’ legs, but was also ice cold in front of the goal, as evidenced by nine goals and ten assists – making him the top scorer in the league. “The balance sheet could probably have been even better if he hadn’t cut back something as a result of the transfer rumors that arose,” says Netzer. Batista Meier increases from 450,000 to 700,000 euros, more than doubling his market value during the loan (initially 300,000).

When it comes to squad values, BVB II is the biggest winner, especially thanks to Blank’s upgrade, and is expanding its lead at the top – from 10.3 million euros to 11.3 million euros. Second division relegated and autumn champions SSV Jahn Regensburg increased by a little less than one million and follows Dortmund with 6.7 million euros. In the Regensburg ranks, 20-year-old central defender Louis Breunig (+175,000 to 400,000 euros) rises the highest.

MSV Duisburg, which is threatened with relegation, suffered the biggest loss: by almost 500,000 euros to 5.9 million euros. The red pen is set for a total of 17 players, including ex-Bundesliga professional Pascal Köpke, for whom the prize goes from 350,000 to 200,000 euros. “Köpke’s market value continues to plummet. Since the last update in October, his personal situation at MSV has deteriorated to a devastating extent. After poor performances, he was dropped from the matchday squad and has not returned since then, even under new coach Boris Schommers. Instead, central defender Sebastian Mai has to help out in the attack again and again,” says market value administrator Sebastian Öttl (“M-Power”).

This is how transfer market market values work

The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.

The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
