Mark Sheehan (The Script) is dead – so the fans mourn

Irish musician Mark Sheehan has died, his bandmates announced on Instagram. The cause of death initially remained unclear. In addition to many famous colleagues, Ireland’s President also offered his condolences.

Mark Sheehan is dead. The Script guitarist died on Friday (April 14) aged just 46. His band shared this in a message with the public. According to the announcement, the Irishman died in a hospital after a short illness. Sheehan is survived by his wife, Rina Sheehan, and their three children.

The exact circumstances of death are not yet known. The fact is, the guitarist was not on the US tour in 2022. At the time, fellow frontman Danny O’Donoghue announced that Sheehan was absent due to family reasons.

Numerous fans and colleagues reacted to the death notice in the comment columns of The Script on Instagram. British pop singer Calum Scott wrote: “So sorry to hear this news. Love and thoughts to everyone associated with Mark.”

Irish folk rock singer Hozier left the message: “So sad to hear about this. Thinking of all of you and Mark’s family right now and sending my best regards. Sincere condolences to you all.”

Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy paid tribute to the star on Friday night’s show. He said: “We are devastated to learn of Mark’s untimely passing tonight.”

Irish President Michael D. Higgins also spoke about Sheehan’s death, as reported by Billboard, and posthumously praised the band’s “originality and excellence” in a lengthy statement. “Through their music, Mark and The Script have played a prominent role in continuing and promoting this proud tradition of Irish musical success around the world,” said Higgins. He then offered his condolences to the Sheehan family.
