Mark Rutte may return to JEKA: ‘Good for bar turnover’

Nothing but praise on Sunday morning in the canteen of the JEKA football club in Breda about the very special volunteer who spends an hour behind the bar. And the volunteer himself, none other than outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte, is also having a good time. He is glad they didn’t ask him to play football. His feeling for the ball is ‘moderate’, he admits with a broad smile.

But according to one of the many visitors this Sunday, there is little wrong with his bar skills. “Fast and smooth,” he says with satisfaction. And if it is up to Peer Verbiest, board member of the club’s canteen affairs, he can come again next week. “Not bad for bar turnover,” he agrees, laughing.

Of course, it is no coincidence that the outgoing Prime Minister shows his face in Breda during campaign time. Although he says he mainly wants to emphasize the importance of volunteer work with this campaign.

In the meantime, orders for coffee, tea and of course sausage rolls are flying over the counter. And between the companies there is also time to sign an autograph and take various selfies.

And tap a beer? How does that go for Rutte? We won’t know: the tap won’t open before twelve o’clock. And before then, this super volunteer is already on his way to his next campaign stop.
