Mark Rutte has no problem with Today Inside: ‘Nice program!’

Mark Rutte does not have as much trouble with the Today Inside program as his colleague Sigrid Kaag. In fact, he finds it all amusing. “It’s just a really fun program, isn’t it?”

Sigrid Kaag has been reacting very irritated for days when journalists ask her about the return of Johan Derksen on television, but her colleague Mark Rutte appears to take a very different view. The Prime Minister informs a reporter from Hart van Nederland that he thinks Today Inside is a nice program.

Nice program

Rutte did not look at the first VI since the candle exit yesterday. “No, I was in Bulgaria yesterday, in Sofia, so I was back late.”

Did he look it back? “No, I can’t do that at all. Unfortunately. It’s just a really nice program, I think, isn’t it?”

Does he ever watch VI? “Yes, occasionally when I have the chance. I don’t watch a lot of TV, because I’m often out in the evening and if I go back to watch everything during the day, I’m home even later in the evening, so that doesn’t always work. But yes, you try to follow it.”

Free press

What does Rutte think of VI being back on television so soon after the candle riot? “Let the government have no opinion about TV programs, the free press. In the end we all choose what we watch and I think 1.5 million people watched yesterday. I saw that in the ratings this morning, so that’s a sign that it is a very popular program.”

Does he think VI is an important program? “The government has no position on the importance of programs, but as viewers we naturally decide what we watch. It is a free country and if 1.5 million people tune in to this program, it is apparently considered important after all.”
