Mark Rutte was completely surprised this morning in Koffietijd, where he was presented with a fragment from thirteen years ago. “How funny, dude! This had really sunk in!”
One of Mark Rutte’s last media appearances in this election campaign was this morning at Koffietijd. He came in a little late at the end of the broadcast, right after an Edsilia Rombley performance. “How nice that net was, wasn’t it, with Edsilia? The editors didn’t keep a dry eye,” he noted.
Tutorial
Presenter Quinty Trustfull immediately comes with a household announcement. “By the way, we have agreed to tutor. That that is clear. We actually said: ‘We have to tell you, Prime Minister.’”
Rutte: “Yes, otherwise I would have to say Mrs. Vivian.”
Quinty: “Yeah, but Mark said, ‘I’m kind of a friend of the show now, so let’s just tutoy.’ Therefore.”
Vivian Slingerland is on Quinty’s side. The three watch together how the TV chef on duty prepares the prime minister’s favorite dish: sambal goreng telor.
‘How funny!’
Quinty suddenly surprises the prime minister with an old fragment. “Now of course you think: Macron is the only important person I brought to that Indian restaurant, but that is not entirely true. We have found a fragment that you went to dinner with a very beautiful lady.”
Then an old fragment appears in which Rutte goes out to dinner with Vivian, the woman standing next to him at Koffietijd. He can’t believe it: “How funny, dude! Yes, that’s if you have archives, eh! Yes, now I remember, dude. It had really sunk in. So this is if you have an archive!”
To the pub
Vivian: “This was 2010. You were the leader of the VVD.”
Rutte: “I was not prime minister yet!”
Vivian: “You were really still on the road, so you had time for me. We have been on the road for four hours, we have been to your favorite pub, your favorite restaurant and also to the school where you teach.”
Rutte also came to Koffietijd a number of times afterwards. “Also in the villa first. Where was that? What was that congregation called? Emnes, yes. Now for the second time of course here. A really nice building.”
Fuses
Rutte is disappointed that Coffee Time is ending. “I’m sorry you’re quitting. There are so many people who watch this and for whom it is really a permanent fixture. It really is a monument this program. Let’s talk to the management of this little club. I’ll see them right away. I will say that the government also has an opinion on this.”
But, according to the prime minister: “No promise! Or we start our own broadcasting company. It’s just a really nice program and you’re doing a fantastic job. Also the others who presented it. It has a kind of atmosphere that is important to a lot of people.”
