The producer of the “Barbie” soundtrack has already heard the new record – his verdict is positive.
Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” can be seen in German cinemas from July 20th. English music producer Mark Ronson was responsible for the soundtrack of the film about the pop culture icon in pink. And for song contributions, he brought Dua Lipa on board alongside Billie Eilish. She contributed the song “Dance The Night” and shared some more song material with Ronson…
In an interview with Vulture, Ronson spoke about both Dua Lipa’s “Barbie” song and her upcoming album, which he’s likely to hear pretty exclusively. The two have worked together in the past, so it’s no wonder the British-Albanian singer-songwriter entrusted Ronson with her new songs.
The song “Dance The Night” will also be featured on this next record. Speaking about the 27-year-old pop star’s new work, the 47-year-old says: “I’ve heard about it and it’s amazing”. He also spoke about the music video for Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” and hinted that the disco ball smashing in this clip could be symbolic of their next album. “I think that’s why there’s the disco ball being smashed in the video, right? It feels like a triumphant kick-off to this era of her music and what she’s going to do next,” he told Vulture.
He also celebrated the musician: “Her music does what I really love as far as dance music goes: it has energy, but it’s kind of heavy and weird”. Last but not least, this is one of the reasons why he would also like to DJ Dua Lipa’s tracks.
Dua Lipa’s current album, FUTURE NOSTALGIA, was released in 2020 and ME writer Sven Kabelitz gave the record four stars out of a possible six. In his review he wrote, among other things: “With the disco-pop of their second long player, Dua Lipa is consistently in the fast lane. Jostling and setting the turn signal to the left”. It is currently unclear when a new work by the artist will be released.

Fans are still awaiting a release date for the upcoming album. In March 2022, the pop musician backed out after telling Elton John it was “50 percent done.” However, in December she admitted that the record had taken a different direction. “When I spoke to Elton, I really felt like I was halfway done. But it took a complete turn as I continued to work, and I really feel like it’s starting to sound cohesive now,” the 27-year-old told Variety. She continued, “The album is different – it’s still pop, but it’s different sonically and there are more lyrical themes. If I told you the title it would all make sense – but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”

The ‘Barbie’ soundtrack, produced by Mark Ronson, will be released on Friday 21st July 2023. The film stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and will be joined by the likes of Dua Lipa, Simu Liu and Michael Cera.
