Great relief for Mark Gillis, now that a suspect has been arrested for the brutal robbery of which he became the victim last year. He is still very much affected by that robbery at his chalet at the Prinsenmeer holiday park. But the news that one of the men who committed the robbery is probably in prison does the son of SBS reality star Peter Gillis enormously well. “I was waiting for this.”
The 39-year-old suspect, a man from Den Bosch, was arrested early Thursday morning. Mark got the good news himself from the police at two to nine. “I had sent the detectives a message on Wednesday whether there was any progress,” he says. “Then I was told I would be called back this Thursday.”
The identity of this suspect emerged after his DNA was discovered during the trace investigation that the police did after the robbery in and around Mark’s chalet at the Prinsenmeer holiday park. This track led to a ‘hit’ in the DNA database of the Netherlands Forensic Institute. The resident of Bossche was arrested at home and has been detained.
“They can now interrogate this man. Maybe he will reveal something about the other people involved. I am hopeful that all three or four of them will be arrested,” says Gillis.
After the robbery, Mark was quite battered. He suffered a black eye and a concussion. But above all a trauma. “I couldn’t do anything for the first two, three weeks,” he told Omroep Brabant on Sunday in the TV program KRAAK. “After a few apps or emails I fell asleep. Now I still suffer from it in the evening and at night.”
That is still the case, he let us know on Thursday. “But this news brings a bit of sun into the darkness.”
The news about the arrest also stirs up a lot of friends and acquaintances of his. “I am bombarded with apps, direct messages and so on,” laughs Mark. He is looking at that. “That people get the news so quickly!”
The investigation into the robbery continues. The police hopes to find out more about the white van that drove around Gillis’ chalet shortly before the robbery. The items that were stolen are also not not above water. This includes watches and a special model of sunglasses.
