Mark French new head coach of ERC Ingolstadt

Head coach Doug Shedden’s contract was not renewed after a disappointing season. Now the ERC has found a new trainer in search of a new coach: the Canadian Mark French.

French has many years of experience

The 51-year-old has more than 25 years of coaching experience in various North American and European leagues. Last season he finished second in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) as an assistant coach at Metallurg Magnitogorsk. He signed a one-year contract with Oberbayern.

“Mark is a very detail-oriented and hard-working trainer who communicates his ideas and visions excellently. This aspect was very important to me. He’s also a family man and will suit the ERC very well with his style and character,” says ERC sports director Tim Regan.

“For me, the ERC was the best option. The more values you personally share with the philosophy of the club, the better and more successful the cooperation works. The more I spoke to Tim Regan, the more excited I was about the task.” Mark French, new coach at ERC Ingolstadt

ERC Ingolstadt failed in the pre-playoffs this season

Former coach Shedden has twice led the ERC into the top six in his first two seasons. In the 2020/21 season, the club had reached the playoff semi-finals for the first time in six years. In the past season, Ingolstadt was eliminated in the pre-playoffs after seventh place in the preliminary round.
