Amsterdam (dpa) – Freiburg’s keeper Mark Flekken will also be in the goal of the Dutch national soccer team in the test against Germany.
“Flekken will play again,” said Bonds coach Louis van Gaal on Saturday evening after the Netherlands’ 4-2 win against Denmark. “I do that consciously, then he can show himself against Germany,” said van Gaal. The Netherlands will welcome Germany on March 29 (8.45 p.m.) in Amsterdam for the classic.
The 28-year-old Flekken celebrated his debut in the Elftal on March 26th. When the Danes made it 1-1 by Jannik Vestergaard, the Freiburg goalkeeper didn’t look too happy because he hesitated to run out. Overall, Flekken could be satisfied with his first international match.
Van Gaal saw it that way too. “It’s true that he could have done a little more with the first goal,” said van Gaal. Above all, Flekken’s football skills convinced the veteran coach. “We need to use him a lot more in the build-up game. I think it’s a plus that he can open the game, which means we can keep playing football.” The real number one Justin Bijlow from Feyenoord Rotterdam is currently injured.
