The family of The Fall founder and singer Mark E. Smith, who died in 2018, has criticized the new band made up of former The Fall members. Brothers Steve and Paul Hanley, Pete Greenway, Simon Wolstencroft and Martin Bramah formed House Of All back in 2022. The debut album is scheduled for release on April 23, the single “Harlequin Duke” is already outside. The group then goes on a UK tour.

The quintet describes themselves as “A Fall Family Continuum Project”. In connection with the upcoming release and tour, Mark E. Smith’s family have accused the band members of saying their project is “extremely offensive” and should under no circumstances be associated with The Fall or their former frontman.

No association with Mark E. Smith’s life’s work desired

The band was banned from using the name or image of Mark E. Smith or The Fall. The House Of All label responded to the allegations on February 1. The work stands on its own, but the band would inevitably be associated with The Fall by press and fans and would have no interest in denying their musical roots.

Mark E. Smith formed The Fall in Manchester in 1976. He was the only consistent member of the post-punk band until his death in January 2018 at the age of 60. Their 1980 album Grotesque (After the Gramme) reached number 1 on the UK Indie Charts.
