Mark Baanders’ mother is completely lyrical about her son’s star status. She even asks people on the street at every opportunity if they know him. “She is so proud.”

Mark Baanders, reporter for broadcaster PowNed, has seen his star status rise considerably through his participation in Expedition Robinson. He has also regularly made the news lately because he has become the figurehead for people with vitiligo, a condition that causes white spots on your skin. Nicolette van Dam has that too.

“Do you know Mark?”

Mark’s mother is very proud of her son, he says in the LINDA. “My mother is so proud of me that for a while she had the habit of asking people if they recognized me. Fortunately, she has stopped doing that, but she still punches me every now and then when we are walking on the street and someone is staring at me.”

According to Mark, the bond with his family is very close. “We used to always sit at the table together in the morning and evening. Although I mainly remember warmth and conviviality, everything was discussed, even difficult topics.”

Annoying characters

Where did Mark get that cheeky thing from? “Whoever had the best story as a child could be in charge and tell it in colors and flavors. My parents raised us with plain Amsterdam humor, and I always enjoyed imitating characters at the table. An annoying teacher, for example. No one was spared, including ourselves.”

Does he have other ambitions besides television? “I am now looking into the matter professionally and want to make good skincare accessible, so that no man has to dig through his girlfriend’s or mother’s day cream jar with his claws.”
