Marius Müller-Westernhagen
A clear sign from Marius Müller-Westernhagen: the musician showed on Instagram on Friday (February 4th) what “freedom” looks like for him. One photo shows him with his arm rolled up as he receives a vaccination. Many of his fans see the post as a clear statement to all opponents of vaccination. He had not previously made public how he thinks about the fact that lateral thinkers have been playing his song “Freiheit” again and again on Corona demos and otherwise using it for their purposes.
But this message should now be unmistakable:
Marius Müller-Westernhagen has been vaccinated
Many users see this as a clear positioning by Marius Müller-Westernhagen, and Green Party politician Angela Dorn, Minister for Science and Art in Hesse, explained: “Sometimes artists don’t want to leave the interpretation of their works to others.” Critics, however, scoff at the fact that you can vaccination do not have any real freedom and see the democratic rights enshrined in the Basic Law in danger, despite freedom of expression and the possibility of demonstrations in Germany.
Westernhagen’s song “Freiheit” had already become the soundtrack for political and social change. The song, released in 1987, experienced an upswing as a result of reunification.
