JUDO – Marit Kamps (21) has won bronze during the Grand Slam in Georgia. The judoka from Assen competes in the open class above 78 kilos.
She was allowed to skip the first round and started her tournament in the quarterfinals. She won it by scoring a waza-ari and then turning it into an ippon with a headlock.
In the semifinals she faced the French Julia Tolofua. She managed to beat Kamps with a headlock.
The judoka from Drenthe eventually took bronze after she won the repechage on the basis of penalties.
At the beginning of May, Kamps made her debut at the European Championships for seniors. Then she still missed the medals. Later this year, in October, she also hopes to start at the World Cup in Uzbekistan.
In the juniors, she was joint world champion in her weight class last season.
