Sailor Marit Bouwmeester is already certain of gold at the Olympic test event off the coast of Marseille with only the medal race to go. Bouwmeester, competing in the Ilca 6 class, has a 21-point lead over Olympic champion Anne-Marie Rindom from Denmark.
Bouwmeester won one race in France and finished second four times. With the gold in Marseille, Bouwmeester also meets the first requirement for obtaining a registered Olympic ticket. For this, the sailor had to finish in the top three during the Olympic test event.
The next step in the Olympic qualification process is to achieve a place in the top three at the World Cup in The Hague. If none of her Dutch competitors finish in the top 10 during that tournament, the Olympic ticket will go to Bouwmeester.
