Marina’s shopping cabinet for the poor already destroyed

Less than two months ago, the Veldhoven Marina started giving away groceries to poor people, but the cupboard containing the items has already been destroyed. When she came out on Tuesday morning, one of the doors was broken on the floor. She does not know who did it, but Marina is disappointed, because the things can no longer be kept dry.

At the end of August, Marina opened the box as a helping hand for people who are struggling to make ends meet financially. She receives many donations from people from the city, with which she fills the closet. And that is sorely needed. “I now have to replenish the cupboard almost daily. More and more people are coming,” she says.

But since the door has been removed, Marina no longer dares to fill the cupboard. “The stuff was still there when I discovered it this morning, but when it rains they get wet now.”

Although the door was badly damaged, Marina does not want to assume the negative. “I can’t say what happened because I don’t have a camera. But maybe it wasn’t done intentionally and it was an accident. That someone lost their balance, or something,” she says.

Annemarie de Jong is not so sure about that. She also has a shopping cabinet in Bergen op Zoom and hers has already been broken open twice during the night. “You can say for sure that hers has been destroyed, because such a door does not fall out by itself. That is just wantonness on the part of young people.”

To be able to buy a new cabinet, Marina started a crowdfunding. She hopes to raise $100. “If I go over that, I will divide it among other sub-cabinets here in Veldhoven. So that they can buy new stuff or refurbish their cupboard,” says Marina.
