Marijn de Vries is grateful for the many reactions she has received in response to her column in NRC. Yesterday, the journalist and former cyclist from Sleen wrote about her own experiences with misconduct at NOS Sport.
“Overwhelmed by the enormous amount of responses to my column. I can’t even read them all. Let alone that I can respond to everything,” De Vries writes on Instagram. “But: thank you. I feel that you have gathered around me and that means a lot.”
De Vries wrote in a column yesterday about undesirable behavior by an employee of NOS Sport during the Tour de France for which De Vries The Evening Stage was present at. On a schedule, she drove a car every day with a colleague who used vulgar language. After a report to an editor-in-chief, she was allowed to ride in another car, but nothing else was done.
A year later she was allowed to join the cycling talk show again, but there was “a strange atmosphere” in which it was said with a laugh that she “really don’t have to be afraid to get in the car with him, hahaha.” No one seemed to support her, she wrote. She reported this again a year ago after the revelations in The Voicebut even then De Vries felt that he was not being taken seriously.
The NOS acknowledged in a response that there was contact with De Vries about the report last year and acknowledged that things had not been done properly.
