Marieke Elsinga peddles with a dirty toilet receipt: ‘It was between my lips’

Marieke Elsinga has tried in vain to make people happy with a dirty toilet receipt worth 50 euro cents. “I often have that receipt in the toilet between my lips.”

Anyone who thinks that Marieke Elsinga only sits on her roof terrace with her cat outside of her radio broadcasts is wrong. The Qmusic star is going through quite a bit. For example, she was recently on her way to a job in Cuijk and made a stopover at a gas station in Beesd. “I managed to maneuver myself into such a sad position there.”

Peeing Marieke

What has happened? Mary tells it Qmusic: “I had to pee, so I stopped at the gas station. It was busy there, I had to go to the toilets and they are often at the back of the cash register, so I had to go through all the crowds of people waiting at the cash register and then through the gate that you have to pay.”

She had to pay for the toilet, but: “Then you get a receipt like this and with that voucher you have a 50 cent discount on something you buy at the cash register. I think that’s a very good system. Now I really didn’t need anything, there were still enough M&Ms in the car, so I thought: I’ll make someone else happy with that voucher with a 50 cent discount.”

Price shooting

Marieke started to offer her dirty toilet receipt to the other customers. “It was busy at the checkout, so I thought: it’s price shooting. To the first person in line, a gentleman, I say, “Would you like my toilet receipt?” I felt a little Gaston. The man said: ‘I’ve already paid, I’m just waiting for my sandwich.’ Alright.”

No one really wanted Marieke’s receipt. “I say: ‘You then?’, to a lady. “Do I make you happy?” She says: ‘No, I only filled up’, and then you are not allowed to hand in the receipt. A third person says, “No thanks, I have my own receipt.” Then it felt to me as if I was selling a poop sandwich at the market.”

‘Between my lips’

Marieke may be a celebrated radio DJ, but at such a moment she feels very small. “No one wanted my toilet receipt and then I slunk off again. What do you feel then? I’m not going to do that again.”

She concludes: “There is also something sad about it, because that toilet receipt always has something gross on it and I often have it between my lips in the toilet, because I have to leave it somewhere. I had no pockets, nothing, so there’s something gross about a toilet receipt like that, people don’t want that. I quit.”
