Marianne Vos sprints just next to the first yellow jersey in Paris

Marianne Vos failed to win the first yellow jersey in the Tour de France for women on Sunday afternoon. During the first stage in Paris, the Dutch Lorena Wiebes was too quick for her.

It was a ride with a start at the Eiffel Tower and then the laps known from the Tour for men, including the Champs-Élysées. There was also the finish, where Wiebes, who drives for Team DSM, fully fulfilled her favorite role. She defeated Vos, who had entered the sprint early. The Belgian Lotte Kopecky was third.

Vosges
Monday will be another flat ride. The race is from Meaux to Provins. The Tour for women ends next Sunday with a tough mountain stage in the Vosges.

The start of the Tour de France for women is a dream come true for Vos and all other cyclists. The stage race is organized for the first time since 1989. “It’s really going to happen now”, Vos stated rather satisfied.

Signature action
Vos was one of the initiators who started a signature campaign almost ten years ago to get the Tour de France back on the agenda for women. It closed in 1989 due to lack of funds. Supported by no less than 70,000 signatures, Vos and the others got the Tour back.
