Marianne Vos will not start on Saturday in the cycling classic Paris-Roubaix due to a positive corona test. Her team Jumbo-Visma has that shortly before the start of the competition announced† Vos has no complaints, but after two positive self-tests, “starting is not an option”, according to a statement from Jumbo-Visma.
The 34-year-old Vos says he is “hugely” disappointed. “When I tested positive this morning, the world just came crashing down.” She returns home and rests. Last year, the multiple world champion on track, road and field came in second at the inaugural edition of the Paris-Roubaix women’s race. In the second edition she was one of the favorites for the overall victory. Vos dropped the Amstel Gold Race in his own country last weekend, in order to prepare optimally for Paris-Roubaix.

Five other cyclists of the Jumbo-Visma team tested negative and will start. Romy Kasper, Coryn Labecki, Linda Riedmann, Teuntje Beekhuis and Riejanne Markus are not close contacts van Vos, who says he supports the team’s policy. The start of the race is at 12.35 pm in Denain in northern France.
