Reporter Maria Veitola and singer Anna Puu recently vacationed together in Mozambique, Africa. The two posted holiday photos on Instagram, which show that they have collected various shells and corals as “treasures from the beach”.
– We have woken up and gone to sleep with the sun. In between, we ate, drank, swam, boogie boarded, collected treasures on the beach, played Yatz and Scrabble, read, talked, sweated and stared at the endless sandy beach, which is enough for 2700 km in Mozambique!
Soon, the comment section of the post questioned whether collecting corals is allowed.
– Hello, I would like to remind all beach vacationers and social influencers that (even dead) corals and mussels are an important part of the marine ecosystem, and they should not be picked up as souvenirs. In many places, collecting is also against the law and taking it out of the country is prohibited, the comments reminded.
Veitola supplemented its publication later and corrected that you really shouldn’t collect souvenirs from the beach.
– According to the messages we received, collecting even dead pieces of coral or seashells from the beach is not advisable, because they are part of the local ecosystem. Unfortunately, there are no clear guidelines for travelers on the internet. But FYI this for all treasure collectors like us!
Maria Veitola and Anna Puu called their trip a “mother’s vacation”.
– You need to turn the lever in your own head to a different position to realize that the mother can sometimes take her own time and go on adventures without the family. After all, it’s easy to feel guilty, like: a) Can I leave the family “to their own luck” to survive everyday life? b) Can I enjoy not having to serve anyone or take care of others but myself without compromise?
