María Laura Tramanone: The relationship of self-esteem with anxiety and stress

Anxiety and stress are the response to a state of excessive or permanent tension that manifests itself on a physical, psychological and behavioral level, common sensations in our daily lives, but which should not become a habit. And it is important to differentiate them because, although they are similar sensations, they are not exactly the same and must be treated differently.

“Stress is defined as a substantial imbalance between the capacity to demand, physical or psychological, and the capacity to respond, in conditions in which the failure to satisfy said demand has important consequences. On the other hand, anxiety is a negative emotional state that is accompanied by a feeling of nervousness, worry, and fear of unknown things. This state has two components: cognitive anxiety, a mental component that is generated by thought processes such as worries or fears, and somatic anxiety, which is a bodily component or degree of perceived physical activation such as lack of air or muscle pain ”, clarifies María Laura Tramanone, accompanist in Biodecoding and Professional Ontological Coaching.

– In addition to the physical, emotional and psychological changes caused by stress and anxiety, does it also affect self-esteem?

Yes, which creates a vicious circle that is difficult to stop. Self-esteem is directly related to the perception of threats and the corresponding changes in stress and anxiety. A person with low self-esteem has less self-confidence and, therefore, experiences more negative emotions than someone with higher levels of self-esteem. On the other hand, people who have an adequate level of self-esteem tend to live with greater satisfaction and worry less about trivial problems, which cause stress, anxiety and other emotions that can trigger situations of risk or vulnerability.

– What strategies can we use to improve our self-esteem and reduce stress and anxiety levels?

Strategies to increase self-esteem are important resources to reduce the levels of these unwanted feelings. Theorists agree on some methods to improve it, highlighting the following: coping and conflict resolution; adaptation to expectations and aspirations to real achievements; learning new social skills; self-awareness and cognitive control; understanding and expression of emotions.

What is the Self Love workshop and how can it help us improve our self-esteem?

The Self Love workshop is a workshop with the Biodecoding approach and is aimed at all those who want a more flexible and adaptive life to experiences. Throughout the program we work on the thinking system, updating it and aligning it with the wishes of the participant. We also have another way of working, through Biodecoding that proposes tools to become aware of how we are perceiving and meaning the different experiences, and from that place it proposes to rewrite life with beliefs that empower us.
